Our Vision
We see the creation of an Irish Process Oriented
Psychology Centre as our collective dream coming into being.
We are proud of our three-year certificate and
our five-year diploma training in Process Oriented Psychology that
is presently in place here in Ireland. Our curriculum structure,
our valued trainers and our community commitment to processing our
steps (as individuals and as a collective) are quality stones to
what we are about.
We are a source and authority of our own ideas,
plans and visions, and seek deep democracy as a core valve to our
development.
We believe in our challenging and loving learning
and teaching environment, in our awareness of the use of rank and
in our warm welcoming atmosphere.
We examine ourselves and are examined. We accredit
ourselves individually and are accredited collectively. We embrace
all spirits known and unknown crafting our path to graduating ourselves
to the greater service of the whole.

The Condition
"What is above sacrifices itself to increase
what is below, this is out-and-out increase. To rule truly is to
serve. It is the spirit that has power to help the world. It is
the way of great enlightenment, the way of great clarity".
We the Irish Process Work Community are called
to take our authority and rank for the greater good of all.
'Sacrifice on the part of those above for the
increase of those below fills us with a sense of joy and gratitude
which is of great value to the common well-being".
The Judgement
"When people are devoted to their leaders,
great and difficult undertakings are possible. Therefore in such
time of process and successful development, it is necessary to work
and make the best use of the time in harmony with the spirit".
We Process Oriented Psychology Ireland value and
celebrate our teachers, our leaders and our training. We work well
and are guided by the spirit of our community.
The Image
"As thunder and wind reinforce each other
so the wise man notes the ways of others. If he sees good in others
he imitates it, if he sees bad in himself he removes it".
We seek the path of awareness.
We undertake the creation of something great,
the creation of an Irish Process Oriented Psychology Centre, stepping
into our authority by acting in harmony with the highest law of
nature, of our community and of our full selves.

History of Process Work
Process work developed in the 1970s and 1980s
in Zurich, Switzerland, when Dr. Arnold Mindell began researching
illness as a dream-like expression. A Jungian analyst and former
physicist, Mindell discovered that the dreaming process went far
beyond the nighttime dreams and could be seen in physical symptoms,
relationship difficulties, addictions, extreme states of consciousness,
and social tensions. In 1982 the Research Society for Process Oriented
psychology was founded in Zurich and a training program was developed
shortly thereafter. Mindell and a group of colleagues moved to Portland
Oregon in 1990 to establish the Process Work Center of Portland.
Today there are training programs offered worldwide in countries
from Australia to Switzerland to Russia to India to Japan and to
Dublin.
POP Ireland (contribution of Brid Commins)
In 1990 Kate Jobe and Joe Goodbread gave a public
seminar in Belfast. The following years (1991-1992) they offered
two seminars, one in Dublin and one in Belfast. These were the first
public Process Work seminars in Ireland. Subsequently they were
invited to give a seminar in Dublin which took place in November
1993 in Sr. Louis High School, Rathmines.
In 1994, the first formal Irish training programme
was co-founded by a group of Irish learners together with certified
process work trainers from Portland, Oregon, Joseph Goodbread and
Kate Jobe. Training programs in Ireland continue to grow and attract
learners from fields such as psychology, medicine, clergy and the
law, as well non-professionals seeking personal growth and awareness
training.
The first training weekend took
place on 20 - 23 January 1995 with about 20 people present in the
Dublin Counselling Centre in Gardiner Street. In December 1997 the
first group of students completed the three year Certificate Programme.
A second group of students had already started the Certificate Programme
in 1997 and completed their training in 1999 and the following year,
in January 2000, a third group started the Certificate and this
group will graduate in December 2002. A group of students
working towards a Certificate in Process Work commenced in January
2003 and completed their studies in 2005 (picture above) and a new group will begin in January 2006. We have two Irish Diplomates
along with Phase 1 and Phase 2 students and 2 students soon to take their final exams.
In 2000 the training program was accredited by
NAPCP and also the IAHIP. The Certificate in Process Work can be
the first step toward accreditation (with additional supervision)
by these official bodies.
